My New Dualshock PSP

When I switched on my PSP just now it had a new feature I was previously unaware of; Dualshock. I thought that Sony had neglected this feature but no, just now whilst inserting a UMD the whole thing started vibrating. Not only that but a low pitched hhhhmmmmm as the disc spun round. So less than six months on and after me eulogising my cock off about the PSP being far superior I have now been made to look a bit of a twat as my PSP has just gone and broke on me.

I phoned up the very helpful Sony service department here in Hong Kong and they told me that as i had bought in England then it is not under warranty in Hong Kong. Most companies of the size of Sony have worldwide warranties but Sony obviously feels this is not a good idea leaving me high and dry. There is nothing I can do under this warranty so I gave my boy Roy a call, he of Mecca. It’s going to cost 380 Hong Kong dollars and will be done in a few hours he tells me so I will have to go to Mecca tomorrow. The funny thing is that today on my way home from work there was a couple opposite me on the MTR playing a DS each. His was black, hers was pink. Just before they got off the train they put each DS in matching cases – his was a black case hers was pink. As I watched them I yearned for a quick go on a DS with its computer game graphics and simple gameplay. I also liked the way the new DS lite looked and though how good it would be just to have one in my bag for the tube as there are no moving parts and it’s nigh on impossible to break. Then I get home, switch on the PSP and whirrrrrrrr. It seems like I am being pulled towards mecca for a reason and I may splurge on a DS out of spite and the fact that I can get a flash card with 20 DS games on including Advance Wars which I miss like the deserts miss the rain.

All isn’t lost though, PSP still plays and as everything is booted from the Dev Hook, or already cracked and loaded onto the memory card, the UMD drive is hardly used but it’s very annoying and, dare I say, sloppy of Sony to have a portable machine that cannot be used as a portable machine like a DS can. Looking back I can say that all of the PSP games I have played are light years ahead of the DS but if you can only play them at home there’s not much point and you may as well get a XBox. Oddly I know somebody with a Sony camera that has been repaired more than once and is again failing, my Sony Ericsson phone is utter toilet to use and the number pad doesn’t work properly any more. The bottom line is that if you want something that can last then Sony is not your friend. Sony sucks. 1/10.
