Classic heat that I found looking for Chubb Rock on Youtube. Premo beat but Golden Era. Listen lyrics…

Diggin In The Crates – Rare Studio Masters: 1993 – 1997

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

This has kept me going over the last three weeks or so. Double CD shizzle from super producer Buckwild with millions of golden era tracks and remixes that are pure vintage heat for the streets.Where to begin? There are dozens of blazing tracks on here that take you back to the days when Hip hop was an art form and really was the most exciting and inspirational music on the planet. Buckwild has a simple formula that was state of the art back in days and still can rock a jam from here to Japan – first the loop, normally heart achingly beautiful then after a few bars the baseline begins which is normally on some muffled EQ’d type business and then the drums – oh those drums. Neck snapping snares and tinny kicks but when Buckwild puts the three parts together you can feel the air around become thick with sensi and chocolate thai. Personal stand outs are Chubb Rock ‘What A Year’ remix ( I swear my eyes were red after listening to this), Grand Puba’s ‘I Like It’ (those drums) Artifacts ‘Come On Wid Da Come On’ (Even Busta sounds good) Big L’s MVP (RIP) and remix 1 of Nas’s ‘Life’s A Bitch’ which is awsome. So many Buttas I cannot begin to explain. Cop it like it’s hot. 9.7/10. For those that slept here’s one of my favourite Buckwild cuts not on the album. Don’t front.

Sunday

What a geat weekend. I type on Sunday night as the darkness has drawn in and Monday looms on the horizon but nothing can take away from my happiness with my family right now. Does everyone have this feeling when they have kids? Do all parents turn dull as I have done? I don’t want to go out and get hammered anymore, I don’t want to go out and be cool anymore and I don’t want to go out and buy ‘things’ anymore. Weird. I am kind of stripped of the shit that I used to place a big emphasis on but I haven’t sold out instead I have prioritised things I need from things I don’t need. I just cannot be fucked with wasting my time anymore I guess is what I mean. I think. I am so ready for this coming week it hurts. Big tings a gwan as they say in China.

And so perhaps one of the toughest weeks of my professional career ends. I started the week as the underdog and now feel as if I have climbed right back to the top where I was a month or so ago. It is inevitable there is friction if you are single minded but I think that’s now over. I can now work and work I am. Like a professional. My team is well oiled and my shifty client is putty in my hands. I love my work right now. My wife is also happy which is the most important thing. This afternoon I picked up a breast pumping machine so she can squirt some bottles of milk out and go and get a life of some description for a few hors at least. The sun is out and the sky is blue. I can now look forward to 48 hours alone with my family. Life is not much better than that right now.

Ronnie is trying to nail my azz. The die has been cast. The wheels are in motion. So my hapless co-worker has disappeared by the Cantonese mafia are thick as thieves. They roll deep. They dont like me. Why? I upset one (who was crap at their job) and the whole collective turn against me? This is madness. This is siege mentality. Maybe I am paranoid I don’t know but there is a definite chill in the air. It’s cool as I am all for business like and my work is good so they will come round but it’s unnecessary in this day and age. There is a whiff of anti-colonialism in this whole episode and I feel sad that we have to bring nationhood into this debacle. This is the area I don’t like about Hong Kong – this team thing. This 20 people going to lunch/going to the toilet/walking along the street thing. This collective thing. The anti-individual thing. I offend one person and all react. Small minded but my company is international so I am not alone like I used to be in the good old days. The irony is that all of those ignoring me are in the lower end of the company whilst the real power is staffed by non-locals so I am not really affected. Is this staffing structure intentional or based on ability? I have no idea but it speaks volumes. Maybe though I am just a twat so they could be right.
